Pit Boss 3-series Analog Electric Vertical Smoker Reviews

Pit Boss fabricated a big splash in the barbecue scene when they went afterwards Traeger past selling low cost their pellet grills and now they are going afterward Masterbuilt past selling low toll electric smokers.

Pit Boss has four vertical electric smokers, two with digital controls (Silver Series) and two with analog controls (Blue Series).  I wanted to share the information I take on this new production line so I put together this Pit Boss Electrical Smoker review.

Pit Boss Electric Smokers

Blue Blazing Analog Electric Smokers

There are ii versions of the Blue Blazing analog electrical smoker, the ii Series and the 3 Serial.  The only deviation between the two smokers is that the 2 Series has three cooking grids while the taller three Series has four.  The respective cooking area is 593 versus 791 square inches.

Pit Boss Blue Blazing 2

  • The MSRP on the Blue Blazing Series 2 is $199.
  • The MSRP on the Blue Blazing Serial 3 is $229.

These smokers are powered by a 1650 watt heating element that lets these cookers operate between 100F and 325F.  In that location is a water tray inside the primary cooking bedchamber and a tray for wood chips that slides out for piece of cake refilling while you are smoking.

The biggest feature to sympathise about these smokers is that they have an analog control system which means y'all volition accept to spend some time learning how to dial in the temperature you want.

Client Reviews

These smokers have been around for a few years now and there are very few customer reviews to be found on the Internet.  I was able to find a couple of reviews at Walmart and a few some more at Amazon. The reviews on the Pit Boss website are mixed up with the reviews for their Copperhead vertical pellet smokers and then they really were not useful.

All told I found 68 reviews (current Nov 24, 2020) and hither is what they look like.

Pit Boss Analog Electric Smoker Reviews (68 Ratings)

Combining the 58% 5 Star reviews with the 12% 4 Star reviews indicates that 70% of buyers were happy with this smoker and xxx% were not.  I do need to point out that the relatively depression number of reviews does not brand this a robust information set so take these values with a grain of salt.

Personally I would non encourage someone to purchase a product that 30% of owners didn't similar and less than 60% gave it a v star rating.

While these smokers get low ratings I don't entirely blame Pit Boss.  In that location are inherent issues with electric smokers in full general such every bit difficulty generating plenty smoke at the correct temperature, dull heat up times and difficulty maintaining temperatures in common cold weather.  Many of these problems will be become magnified when the smoker has an analog control system that must be manually adjusted to adapt to different weather conditions.

Silverish Star Electric Smokers

There are two versions of the Silvery Star digital electric smoker, the ii Serial and the 3 Series.  The only divergence between the two smokers is that the ii Series has three cooking grids while the taller three Series has four.  The respective cooking surface area is 593 versus 791 square inches.

Pit Boss Silver Star 3

  • The MSRP on the Bluish Blazing Serial 2 is $239.
  • The MSRP on the Blue Blazing Series 3 is $269.

These smokers are powered by a 1650 watt heating chemical element that lets these cookers operate between 100F and 400F.

There is a water tray within the master cooking chamber and a tray for wood chips that slides out for easy refilling while y'all are smoking.  The Silver Star smokers have a digital control panel that makes information technology like shooting fish in a barrel to fix the desired cooking temperature.

Customer Reviews

I was able to detect three times more reviews for the digital smokers than I found for the analog models.  The increased number of reviews did non fundamentally change what people thought nigh the product.  Hither is what the data looks similar for the 211 reviews I compiled (current as of Nov 24, 2020)

Pit Boss Digital Electric Smoker Reviews

Combining the 58% 5 Star reviews with the 18% four Star reviews indicates that 72% of buyers were happy with this smoker and 28% were non.  I was surprised to see that both the analog and digital versions of these electrical smokers each had a 58% 5 Star rating.

Pit Boss vs Masterbuilt

When it comes to electric smokers masterbuilt has been Male monarch of the Hill for quite a while.  And then if you are looking at a Pit Dominate electric smoker then you need to compare them against the Masterbuilt products.

Masterbuilt makes a lot of unlike models of smokers including some that have Bluetooth, rotisseries, etc.  To go along this comparing fair I chose two smokers that are extremely pop, sold at the Big Box stores and have the same basic functionality and price as the Pit Boss smokers.

For the analog comparison I chose the John McLemore Series that is sold at Lowes ($189).  For the digital comparison I chose the MES 130B that is sold at Home Depot ($249).

The John McLemore had 256 customer reviews while the MES 130B had 467 client reviews (electric current November, 2020).

Here are the head to caput client reviews for the analog controlled models (Pit Boss Blue vs Masterbuilt John McLemore).

Pit Boss vs Masterbuilt Analog Electric Smokers

Hither are the head to head customer reviews for the digitally controlled models (Pit Dominate Silver vs Masterbuilt MES 130B).

Pit Boss vs Masterbuilt Digital Electric Smokers

As far as I am concerned these two brands have nearly identical customer ratings.  I do not call up that in that location is a large enough data fix to try to divide hairs on these reviews.  On average, nigh 70-75% of owners really similar this blazon of smoker and are pleased with the purchase.

When you read through the negative reviews for the Masterbuilt smokers you volition run into that both brands get very similar complaints.  That really isn't surprising given how like the designs are betwixt the brands.

If y'all are trying to cull between these brands then I would either expect around and see which i goes on sale first or buy simply based upon which one you recall would expect nicer sitting on your deck.

Should Y'all Buy One?

This is a tough call.

I am not a huge fan of electric smokers merely I do understand that they have an attractive toll bespeak and seem similar an piece of cake mode to go started smoking meats.  While I suggest there are other smokers that are meliorate for beginners I practice sympathise that this type of smoker will be the entry point for many people.

If you go into this knowing that y'all probably won't exist able to hit/maintain the elevation advertised temperatures then, at these price points, I call up you could take fun with 1 of these.  I suspect that if you took the time to construct some windbreaks for these smokers and so they would be able to do ameliorate in adverse weather.

When you are dealing with smokers that cost around $200-$250 you shouldn't wait information technology to perform like a contest course offset smoker.  Be prepared to exercise some tinkering and learning the personality of these smokers…it will exist a great excuse to sit outside and drinkable another beer 🙂
